The concept of industrial development area (IDA's) / Industrial Estate (lE's) was envisaged during the year 1957 in order to facilitate exclusive identity for the effective growth of industries in general and SSI sector in particular in a compact specified area away from Residential / Commercial zones, ensure, decentralized industrial development with require infrastructure and ideal environments towards enhanced productivity with effective supervision and control besides providing a source of development for ancillary industries surrounding major industrial undertakings, both under public and private sectors.

The Uppal Industrial Development Area is one of the initial efforts under this concept set up during 1965 by the industries department and transferred to the purview of A.P. Industrial Infrastructure Corporation limited in the year 1974.

The IDA Uppal is located in the heart of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad within a distance of 12 Kms from either side. This estate has 446 acres of land out of which 323 acres are allotted to 149 industrial units.

In order to provide an effective forum for the industrial units towards exchange of ideas and experience, interaction between the government and departments connected with industrial development / NGO’s, organize seminars, workshops, research projects, information technologies, provide common infrastructural facilities etc., the industrial units of IDA, Uppal constituted an Association Viz. Uppal industries association registered under the A.P. (Telangana Area) / Societies Registration Act, 1350 Fasli (act of 1350 fifth registration no.938 of 1975 dated November 15,1975 with registered office at K-2, Plot No.9, IDA, Uppal.

This Association has 149+ members besides associate member's consisting of leased units and members from adjacent industrial units on its roll. The APIIC has allotted 1972 Sq. Mtrs. of land for its activities in which the association constructed one commercial complex consisting of two floors with a total area of 4200 sft besides administrative complex with two floors with a total area of about 3000 sft supported with terrace canopy covered with poly-carbonate sheets. The cost of land and buildings were met exclusively from the contributions of Member Entrepreneurs.
